Describing the 3DS can be frustrating. After having a snake from the Metal Gear Solid demo jump out at me, or the yorkie puppy from Nintendogs + Cats lick from outside of the screen, the 3DS sells itself, but it’s impossible to describe without actually holding it.

However, for me, the most exciting tech demo Nintendo showed off was a tech demo using the two cameras on the back on the device. While perfect for 3D pictures, in this tech demo, by holding the camera 14-inches away from blank table with a small question mark block in the center, the table will open up like a box, with a hole in the center. By moving yourself around, you can shoot targets that are placed around this new landscape popping out at you.

Once all of those targets are hit, the table folds in on itself, and becomes a 3D undulating mound, with targets placed at you. It’s fantastic, and sure, while it uses fairly simple tracking tech and augmented reality, with the 3D abilities of the device, it become that much more insane. Very very cool.
