GTA 6 may be locked to 30FPS even on the PlayStation 5 Pro, according to an inside look by Brazilian content creator DavyJones—but there could still be hope for a higher frame rate at some point.
DavyJones was one of the few insiders who got an early glimpse at GTA 6 by invitation from Rockstar North. He watched a gameplay session of the title running at 30FPS and asked Rockstar North co-director and development leader Rob Nelson about the performance, both on PS5 and on PS5 Pro. Based on his response, that frame rate might be the standard for launch.
“I think we should talk to our technical team to clarify and give you a technical response about it,” Nelson told DavyJones, translated from a livestream in Portuguese. “I’m not the tech guy. Obviously, with everything happening on screen, 30FPS is absolutely fantastic.”
The 30FPS baseline is somewhat standard for Rockstar releases. GTA V released at 30fps on PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro, and only reached 60fps in current-gen consoles and PC. The same happened to Red Dead Redemption 2, as one of DavyJones’ co-hosts pointed out.
This wouldn’t be out of line with the company’s practices for GTA Online, either. The online version was separated into “last-gen” and “next-gen” (PS5, Xbox Series X|S). Before the release of the Enhanced Edition in 2025, PC fell squarely on the last-gen side of the coin, missing out on exclusive content such as the Hao’s Special Works auto shop. In the same vein, GTA 6 likely won’t have a first-person view mode by default, though it might get added in the future.
The release of the GTA 6 Extended Look today opened the floodgates for a ton of information regarding Rockstar’s upcoming title. Despite the leaks—which Rockstar called “heartbreaking”—the game seems to easily maintain a ton of its novelty, especially after today’s display.
GTA 6 releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S on Nov. 19. Until then, there’s a sliver of hope Rockstar can get it to run at 60FPS on the PS5 Pro.
