Namco Bandai teams with Project Sora for new Smash Bros.

Recommended Videos

So far, the biggest news out of the latest Nintendo Direct Japan press conference is that Namco Bandai will be teaming with Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai’s studio Project Sora to developer the next Smash Bros. title. Or is it titles? We heard at E3 2011 that the next Smash Bros. game would somehow involve both the 3DS and the Wii U, but we’re still waiting on details as to what that means.

Will Namco Bandai handle the development on one console and Project Sora on the other? Will Namco’s involvement cause the Smash Bros. formula to change in some way? All remains to be seen, but if previous Namco-Bandai/Nintendo team ups are any indication, we have nothing to worry about. Mario Kart GP was a great crossover title, loyal to the original series yet interesting and fun in its own right. Star Fox Assault wasn’t that bad either.

And I’m calling it now — Pac-Man for Smash Bros. confirmed.
