The 3DS and Skyward Sword come out on top in Japan

It looks like Japan may not hate Japan as much as I thought! The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is doing just fine in it’s native land, chalking in +190,000 in sales in its first week. That’s a better than Twilight Princess sold when it first came out, and around the same amount that Modern Warfare 3 managed to sell on the PS3 and the 360 in Japan during its release week.

Even bigger news is the unexpected leap is sales for the 3DS. The console sold +120,000 units last week, which is more than every other console combined in the same timeframe. There was no particularly big 3DS release to coincide with this leap in sales, so I think it’s fair to say that the 3DS is through whatever growing pains it may have been suffering during it’s “why is the PSP selling better than me?” phase from a few months back.

If this keeps up, I wonder if people will stop claiming that it would be good for Nintendo to stop making consoles?
