DotEmu, Guard Crush Games, and LizardCube have finally announced the release date for Mr. X Nightmare, the upcoming DLC expansion for the posse’s brilliant brawler Streets of Rage 4. The DLC will launch July 15 on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, priced at a reasonable $7.99.

The Mr. X Nightmare DLC brings a fistful of new content to DotEmu’s excellent brawler sequel. Alongside three new playable characters — Estel Aguirre, Max Thunder, and Shiva — the expansion includes a virtual Survival Mode, created by SoR 3 star Dr. Zan. Axel and pals will take on waves of enemies from the past and present under a variety of conditions, which will test the prowess of even the most veteran SoR 4 players. Also arriving as part of the DLC package will be a new range of weapons and special moves for all characters, opening up fresh opportunities for dazzling and devastating combos. Backing these beatdowns will be a selection of new music tracks, composed by artist Tee Lopes, who you may know from their excellent work scoring Sega’s Sonic Mania.

In addition to the DLC, a free update will be rolled out to all players, adding a new “Mania+” difficulty mode, alternate color options for the protagonists, and the much-requested Training Mode, which will give players the opportunity to experiment with each of Streets of Rage 4‘s characters until they have gotten two-fisted justice down to a fine art. Already a fantastic brawler and an excellent co-op experience, the Mr. X Nightmare is set to make SoR 4 better still… Even if we are still missing Roo.
