Grand Theft Auto 6 news is coming soon. We all know it. It’s just a matter of time on when. But don’t tell that to some of the people in the replies on Rockstar Games’ social posts.
Nearly every morning at 9am CT, Rockstar Games posts about updates and events in GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Every morning. I know this because I’ve had Twitter/X notifications for the account since the game’s first trailer debuted.
Most weekdays, my phone buzzes at the same time in the morning and it’s because of a post from Rockstar. I know I’m not the only one, because the posts always have near-instant replies from people talking about GTA 6.
But recently, as an actual GTA 6 announcement feels and looks realer than ever, the social media posts have been flooded with some quality reaction memes and jokes as players expecting a GTA 6 trailer are instead met with news about GTA Online’s Community Race Series.
The ratio of comments, likes, and reposts are genuinely pretty funny, especially the past few days after news of GTA 6 pre-orders beginning this coming Monday leaked from Best Buy.
A Red Dead Online post on May 12 got over 8,000 replies as that was a rumored date for the trailer. Yesterday’s post after the Best Buy leak got 4,500, and this morning’s post above already has 4,500 replies in just under 40 minutes. People are getting restless waiting for news, especially as players are eager to hand over their credit cards.
The replies are mostly harmless, with people joking about the situation while being disappointed that it’s not the news they were hoping for. There’s also some genuinely unhinged responses from people who desperately need to touch grass for a while. But in the end, they all stem from excitement about the game that has felt for a long time that it may never release. But it’s coming in just about six months…as far as we know.
If GTA 6 pre-orders are really opening up on May 18, this upcoming Monday, then we will be getting news about the game any day now. But I will be checking my phone whenever I get that Rockstar Games notification to check what people are saying in the replies either way.
