If you’re looking to spruce up your online appearance with your gaming homies or your long distance relationship but don’t want to enter credit card info online, you’re in luck.
Discord announced today that physical gift cards are coming to retailers across the US, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, and Spain, “making it even easier to give your friends something they’ll actually love on Discord.”

“A gift card makes it easy to buy all sorts of stuff on Discord,” the company said in a new blog post. “Whether you buy one for a friend, your duo partner in your game-night server, or yourself, it’s a direct way to give someone the choice of what to buy on Discord. You choose the amount, and they choose how to spend it.”
If you’re not in the know, Discord is an online chat app that has a subscription called Nitro that gives perks like special customization options, but also bigger upload limits, the ability to stream in 4K, boosts for servers, and more. But you can also purchase customization items like profile effects, nameplates, and more on the app to differentiate yourself however you like.
In the past, you’d need to link a credit card to make purchases, but gift cards add an extra step and a layer of protection if you don’t want to give up your personal info (whatever’s not already out there) to Discord or any other company.
I may or may not have gotten some profile customization skins in the past, so it’s good to know the gift card option is here if you want to snazz yourself up or even give the gift of Nitro to one of your online pals with ease.
Discord says their gift cards can be found at Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop in the US, and will be rolling out to Micromania in France, Gamelife in Italy, and GAME in Spain.
