Pokemon X/Y goes blonde, brings a panda

Glasses are a must

Recommended Videos

Here is a full look at both of Pokemon X/Y‘s playable characters. Note that both trainers have some kind of glasses on their headgear. My guess is that they’ll be donning those specs to engage in some kind of 3D-enabled view in-game, probably to catch new Pokemon, or maybe even a They Live-style awakening about the world being secretly insidious. The game takes place in a new region called Karos, which is reportedly based on France. Sounds like as good a place for a Pokemon/They Live crossover as any.

As for the new Pokemon, they look perfect for the game’s new polygon-based visuals, utilizing simple geometry and bold colors. That yellow lizard-type with the pyramid head looks like he’s practically begging to be transformed into some basic geometry. It will be interesting to see how fans of the prior games in the series take to this new look. Chances are that we’ll be checking out the game on a native 3DS screen next month at E3. Here’s to hoping it looks as nice as this artwork lets on.
