Japan: Five of the top 10 best sellers are 3DS games

It’s a good sign for Nintendo and their supporting third parties if five of the top ten best selling games are Nintendo 3DS titles. That feat is even more impressive when you consider that these 3DS titles only got two of the seven days of the week to make that ranking. 

This was exactly the case in Japan for the launch week of the 3DS. Media Create’s sales numbers for March 21 through March 27 show that five 3DS games took top ten spots. The top of the 3DS titles was Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, which came in at #3 on the charts and sold 119,591 copies in those two days. The next best selling title for 3DS came in at #5 overall, and that was Nintendogs + Cats. Following were Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Super Street Fighter IV 3D and Ridge Racer 3D. 

As for non-3DS titles, the top honor went to Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity for the PSP. SD Gundam G Generation: World also did quite well. Atlus’ poor Catherine got “sucked in the sheets” this week. It comes in selling 85 percent less than it did last week.
