While many Minecraft players want to know how tame a polar bear, especially given how cute they are, it’s sadly impossible. Even if you walk up to it with some fish, it won’t begin to follow you around and kill mobs like wolves. Instead, it’ll stand there wondering what you’re doing. It may even attack you if you stand near or attack its cub since polar bears can be quite defensive about their young.
While polar bears can’t be tamed, there are ways to stay on their good side. Keeping ample distance from them when they have a cub nearby is ideal. Otherwise, lone polar bears or groups of adult polar bears shouldn’t attack you unless you decide to start swinging first. Additionally, if you can kill the polar bear cub in one hit, the polar bear may act like you didn’t do a thing. It’s quite morbid admittedly, but it is possible.
What do you get for killing a polar bear?
If you get trigger-happy and want to kill a polar bear, you can get some light drops. Every polar bear killed will drop 1-3 experience, along with a 75% chance to drop 0-2 Raw Cod and a 25% chance to drop 0-2 Raw Salmon. The amount you get of these fish can be increased with the Looting enchantment, though using your Looting weapon on a polar bear isn’t the most useful. Killing the polar bear cubs will drop nothing, not even experience. All in all, this makes polar bears not very useful if you want to amass some good loot.
