Best Minecraft sword enchantments: Curse of Vanishing

Curse of Vanishing is, technically, an enchantment available to all tools and weapons in Minecraft. However, it is too good to ignore on this list of the best sword enchantments. Curse of Vanishing makes it so the enchanted sword in question disappears upon the playerā€™s death.

Now, you might be wondering, ā€œwhy would I want to do that?ā€ Well, this enchantment is great for shared online servers and multiplayer modes. The chance of griefers in this game is quite high. These players will try to eliminate you just to take your sword. But with the Curse of Vanishing, your precious diamond sword will disappear if you die, and your opponents gets no reward for eliminating you.

Hereā€™s how to get this one:

  • Chest loot (Strongholds, End City, etc)
  • Ruined Portal
  • Fishing
  • Raids
  • Trading with a librarian

Fire Aspect

Fire Aspect is a great enchantment for swords, since it turns your weapon into a flaming sword. This will set mobs and other players on fire when you hit them. So, even if they run away, they will take additional damage for quite some time. It has up to two possible enchantment levels, so you can upgrade Fire Aspect to be even more potent.

You can get this enchantment through an enchantment table. Keep in mind enchantments are tied to your in-game level and are randomized. It may take some time to find this particular one.

Sharpness

This is by far one of the most basic enchantment upgrades for your Minecraft sword, but this doesnā€™t make it useless. Sharpness increases the overall damage of the weapon. You can upgrade the enchantment all the way to a max of five. A maxed out Sharpness sword will be much more effective than a regular weapon, so it is worth getting.

You can find some swords already with Sharpness in treasure chests. However, if you want to apply it yourself, find or make an anvil and use the sword on it.

Knockback

This might be my favorite enchantment for swords of the bunch. Knockback does exactly what its name implies: each swing knocks enemies backwards a bit, while still dealing damage. This is incredibly useful against mobs like creepers, who will blast you to smithereens if you are too close. Players who want a better chance at survival should get this one.

Knockback is another random enchantment players can get from an enchantment table, so be sure to have some patience to find it.
