Eyes up, Guardian: Bungie is teasing massive things that players have been asking for out of Destiny.
In a cryptic new blog post detailing the franchise’s future after the shuttering of Destiny 2 live service, it seems like a bunch of new stuff is in the works, including what everyone has wanted for quite some time: Destiny 3. And if you want go include all players, then a Destiny 1 remaster of sorts appears to be in the works too.

In a “What’s Next?” section of the Q&A style blog, Bungie teased three big announcements: “Destiny 2 Celebration,” “Destiny Legacy,” and “Redacted.” Along with the unvaulting of Destiny 2 content, which the studio previously announced and is coming some time in 2027, those last two are particularly interesting.
“Our epic journey started over a decade ago, and the whole experience needs to be served to you all where you play today,” Bungie said of Destiny Legacy. “Expect more information when we come back to you all early next year.”
That sure sounds a lot like a remaster or some sort of port of the original Destiny to PC and modern consoles, doesn’t it? Yeah, I’m gonna go with that. And then the especially mysterious “Redacted” was teased simply with “we’re back.” Back? For real? Like, a new game? Like Destiny 3? Yup…that sounds like what they’re trying to hint at.
Maybe I’m coping, but it sure sounds like Bungie is full steam ahead behind the scenes on keeping Destiny alive beyond Destiny 2, which is also apparently getting new updates along with the unvaulting of old content. But the main takeaway from here is that, even if this stuff is actually happening, it’s a long ways away. The studio said it’s only in the pre-production phase of Destiny 2’s Content Unvaulting, and it will enter production for that in February, so we probably won’t see or experience that until early 2028.
“So, knowing we are early in incubating our future and actively working on projects to bridge us to that new home, don’t expect us to make a Destiny announcement at the TGA’s this year, or to randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away,” Bungie head of product Josh Deane said. “We get there when we get there.”
It’s a monumental shift for Bungie, which just earlier this year seemed like it was tabling Destiny for the foreseeable future. But a loud outcry from fans has seemingly helped right the ship towards a new horizon where, eventually, players could get a lot of what they’ve been hoping for for a very long time.
