Disgaea 4 is pure insanity on PlayStation Vita

The fact Disgaea is wild and bizarre may come as no surprise to series veterans, but for any newcomers out there, this new trailer should leave you with little doubt. Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited debuts in North Ameri...

NIS takes us to an island paradise, battles us, then travels back in time

NIS was a bit of a hidden treasure at E3. The publisher shared a booth with Atlus and it took me stopping and actually looking at what was on display at the demo station to put two and two together. The search was well worth it because I was rewarded with a closer look at three upcoming titles: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited, and Natural Doctrine.

Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita dated for the west photo
Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita dated for the west
by Steven Hansen

Earlier today, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair got a release date for North American Vitas: September 2. I still need to play the first.

Anyway, more Japanese games have western release dates. Compile Heart's RPG Fairy Fencer F is coming on September 23. The loli characters come from the Hyperdimension Neptunia artist, but the games' gods were designed by Final Fantasy's Yoshitaka Amano. Plus, Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) did the music.

Meanwhile, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited -- a touched up, additional content (plus old DLC) version of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten -- is coming on August 12. Good fit the Vita.

New releases: Beyond, Pokemon X/Y, Disgaea
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

It's here! It's finally here! Pokemon X and Y is out this week for the 3DS and it's pretty much going to be the only thing anyone talks about leading up to the next-gen consoles. Oh, Beyond: Two Souls is also out this week. It has emotions and stuff. You like emotions, right?

Other biggies this week are two repacked re-releases: Borderlands 2 and Dishonored Game of the Year Editions. Oh, videogame industry. No wonder gamers love Steam sales so much.

Review: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness photo
Review: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness
by Chris Carter

I've been playing tactical games since the NES, but there was something about the Disgaea franchise that really resonates with me. Offering up a ridiculous level of customization and refinement, Disgaea sat upon a pedestal in the strategy pantheon, with hardly any competition in terms of how hardcore the experience was.

But 10 years later, there are a lot of other games out there able to replicate that feeling, and the Disgaea franchise isn't quite as reverential as it once was. It's a good thing then that Disgaea D2 hearkens back to what made the original so great.
