Destiny 2 opens free access to past expansions until The Final Shape launch in June

It's not everything, but it's a whole lot of what's left.

Honestly, I never thought I’d say this on the cusp of a new expansion launching and ending a saga, but there’s never been a better time to get into Destiny 2. Alongside the new Onslaught activity, easily farmable and powerful Brave weapons, and load of freebies on the table, Bungie has announced that three expansions would enter a free access period until The Final Shape releases.

While Bungie has been making commendable efforts to mend community relations and enhance Destiny 2’s accessibility, the game’s paywall has often deterred new and returning players. However, with the current Open Access period, players can explore a substantial amount of the game without paying a dime.

What expansions did Bungie make free?

Bungie has made the ShadowkeepBeyond Light, and The Witch Queen expansions available for all players until June 3. While PlayStation Plus subscribers also get Lightfall as a bonus, other players can still access all seasonal content from Lightfall until it leaves the game on the same date.

One important note is that this Open Access period does not include the Dungeon Key for The Witch Queen expansion or the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack. As such, that content will still have to be purchased if players are keen on partaking in it.
