One of the intrusive thoughts that would hit me while playing The Wonderful 101 is how great the game’s collection of 100 simultaneously controlled heroes would work as a contestant in the next Smash Bros tournament. Having all those powers combined could make on of the most versatile fighters in the game, with time slowing bombs, freeze claws, and tons of other unique, powerful moves.
The Wonderful 101 was originally pitched to Nintendo as Smash Bros.-style crossover adventure between Link, Mario, Star Fox, and the rest, so it would only be fitting to see its characters make their way into Nintendo’s flagship all-star title. It would also be a fun way to sneak Jeanne, Rodin, Bayonetta, and Hideki Kamiya himself into the game, as they are all official members of the wonderful one double oh.
This screen depicting Wonder Red as a trophy just popped up on Smashbros.com, and it has me less optimistic that he or any of the other Wonderful 101 will make it to the roster. I suppose it was a little presumptuous to imagine that one of Nintendo’s newest, most untested characters would be granted a coveted spot among the Smash Bros. elite. The same likely goes for Bayonetta, as at this rate, Smash Bros. for 3DS is likely to be released before or simultaneously to Bayonetta 2 hits the Wii U. Still, anything is possible when it comes to Smash Bros., especially when you consider the option for DLC.
In the meantime, I’ve still got techniques in the original game to master. Did you know there are special morphs in The Wonderful 101 that allow you to form a giant, gelatinous version of your team leader? There is way more depth to this game than you might ever discover, even after playing through it multiple times.
