[Update: As it turns out, the cards are discounted, if only slightly. Hopefully this will make it other regions.]
It appears as if the dawn of full downloadable Nintendo games is upon us, as Japan has just started selling 3DS digital download cards. Among the first titles are New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Demon Training, and the first retailer to offer them is 7-Eleven, who is putting them out today.
Later this week, more Japanese retailers will roll them out, until basically every major outlet has them readily available. It seems as if last minute hopes of digital downloads being offered at a discount have been dashed, as they are unfortunately being sold for the full retail price of the game been realized, as they are very slightly discounted (3,580 yen compared to 3,800 yen). We’ll have to see if this practice makes it to the west.
Additionally, for you folks who still have the default SD card sitting snugly in your unit, it’s been revealed that New Super Mario Brothers 2 will take up 2,950 blocks (370 MB), and Demon Training will take up 1,600 blocks (200 MB). Cards will expire 150 days after purchase, so make sure you redeem it before your five months is up!
All in all this is a decent start, but it’s a shame Nintendo couldn’t even discount digital titles by a significant margin of 10%. I wonder how many people will go digital?
