That’s right, less than a week after Monster Hunter Tri 3G was announced in Famitsu for the 3DS, we get the announcement of yet another Monster Hunter game coming for the console. Monster Hunter 4 was shown only briefly at Nintendo’s pre-TGS event, but from we saw, the series is in for some changes. It looks like the game will now involve the ability to climb freely up hills and other forms of higher elevations, adding a whole new (literal) level of depth to its gameplay.

We can guess that like past games in the series, Monster Hunter 4 will be about learning both about your environment, and the (sometimes violent) behavioral patterns of the dragon-dinosaur monsters that you’re hunting. How will this change in the environmental structure impact your ability to hunt monsters, and perhaps more importantly, their ability to hunt you?

I’m sure that’s just the start of the changes we’re in store for from Monster Hunter 4, which is assuredly a long ways off. Of course, the biggest bombshell of them all is that it’s coming to the 3DS. If Monster Hunter 4 goes on to be a console exclusive, you can expect a lot of Japanese gamers to be cancel their PS Vita pre-orders, right before hopping aboard the 3DS hope train. All this, and Nintendo didn’t even bring up the dreaded double nub cradle. Does this mean Nubageddon has really been averted?

Stay tuned to Destructoid for more from the Nintendo pre-TGS conference, coming up soon.
