Nintendo had super-serious laser beam eyes aimed at anyone that tried to take pictures of the Wii U console. Controller? There’s plenty of shots. It’s the console that we were all trying to get a better look at.
There was one type of person that could evade the laser eyes: Japanese folk. I was introduced to a developer through a friend and he was able to sneak some pretty good Wii U shots. He showed them to me and I wanted them. These shots from Japanese site Inside Games give an even better look.
The Wii U machine probably isn’t final, but here’s a good look at what Nintendo had for E3 anyway. You get a really clear view of the sides and back. As expected, it’s very Wii-y. There’s vents and some strange tabs on the sides. The shot that my new friend showed me partially obscured what is clearly an HDMI port ’round back. It also features ports that look a lot like the ones on the Wii.
I think this system is a bit boring looking. I’m sure Nintendo would say that it’s all about the controller.
