Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s beta is about to take a hiatus before its second weekend, but an unfortunate look for one of its main characters likely won’t be addressed by then.
Images of Captain Price from the MW4 beta went a bit viral on social media yesterday, showcasing one of the worst haircuts ever seen in a CoD game. As this intrepid Twitter/X user hilariously put it, “that ain’t Captain Price, that’s Lieutenant Cost”:
But according to CoD devs, the franchise legend’s hair is definitely not supposed to look like that. And thank goodness, because they did our guy really dirty in the screenshots floating around, and he probably deserves better as one of its poster boys.
“We’re aware of an issue with Price’s hair not appearing correctly when viewed at the lowest level of detail,” devs said yesterday. “The team will be addressing it in a future update. Ultimately this will not be an issue if players meet our recommended specs.”
Running a game on the lowest PC settings possible will always create some funky looks, but this one is definitely a bit too ugly for even my tastes. I’ve been playing MW4 on PS5, so I haven’t had any similar issues, but at least it’s good to know that CoD has seen the images circulating and is addressing it.
MW4’s beta, meanwhile, has spent the past few days being dunked on across the gamersphere, so this is just compounding the pile of insults the game has received since the beta kicked off on Friday. The main complaint I’m seeing (other than the never-ending discussion around skill-based matchmaking), and one that I can agree with, is franchise fatigue. Over 20 years in a row with a new CoD game has burnt some people out, but nobody deserves such a betrayal from their barber like this.
The beta returns this weekend with a new look at the upcoming Warzone map Zodiac, new maps and a level increase, and, for the first time in over a decade, CoD’s return to Nintendo on the Switch 2.
