No doubt some of you out there in Internet land have picked up the latest iteration of Kingdom Hearts for the 3DS, and are wondering what the heck the cards are for.
Well, depending on which version you get, they’re for unlocking rare Dream Eaters, which are basically the Pokémon of the Kingdom Hearts world. Read on for a simple explanation of how to unlock and utilize the AR content.
To actually use the AR cards, start up the game, load a save file, and enter the start menu. Select “Spirits.” Then Press “X,” and select the camera option. Change the camera to the “Outer” camera to get a better shot, put the card on the ground, and just stick the camera in front of it!
If your card isn’t scanning, try using the left analog stick to get your wandering Dream Eaters out of the field of vision, as they may block the scan.
Bundled cards are different for the JP, NA, and EU regions. Most regions come bundled with the Trio card (left in the header image), the stand card, and the R&R Seal card (middle, in the header).
If you are in Japan, you can get the Frootz/Fruit Cat card through the April 19th edition of Famitsu Weekly, or the Taihou Kabuto/Kab Kannon card through V-Jump. If you pick up the Mark of Mastery (read: Special) Edition in the NA region, you can pick up Frootz/Fruit and Taihou Kabuto/Kab Kannon.
The Frootz/Fruit, Taihou/Kab, and R&R Seal cards are self explanatory — you scan the card, you get the Dream Eater. But the Trio card is different.
The trio card is randomized to give you either Meowjesty, Ursa Circus, or Sudo Neku. But, if you want to try and pick your favorite of the three, just save the game, try the AR card, and soft reset (L+R+Start/Select — you know, that old-school thing we used to do?). You probably want Meowjesty, because he’s so amazing, right?
The third card that’s included in the standard bundle (which looks like a symbol) is just a pageantry card, as it provides a simple stand for taking pictures of your Dream Eaters.
Each Dream Eater card can only be used once per save file, even if you transfer your Dream Eaters over to another game. If your Dream Eater dies in battle though, you can re-scan the card.
You can scan printouts of the cards from the Internet — just ensure that you’re using color ink, so that it scans correctly; the cards are also not region locked.
