Get your serious face on for the 3DS Slide Pad. Get all mad and serious.
I actually wasn’t mad when I walked up to the lovely Capcom attendant at their TGS booth today. She handed me the Slide Pad to feel for myself. Know that it’s not as bad as some of you all are making it out to be. Sure, it’s big and ugly, and you need to stick a battery in it like it’s 1986, but it feels good in the hand, and it’s not nearly as heavy as I thought it would be.
The good: There’s a curved back that gives it a really nice hand feel. The L and R buttons are a bit chunky, but they also have nice movement. You can easily pop the 3DS in and out of the unit, and the original L and R are still accessible. Again, it’s light and comfortable.
The hmm: The new circle pad feels a bit out there. It just feels like your world is off center when you hold it with your thumbs on both pads. The other big thing is that it’s…well, big. You won’t be putting your 3DS in your pocket with the Slide Pad equipped unless we go back to the fashion of 1986 where urban folks were wearing overalls.
We’ll see how well this 1,500¥ (roughly $20 US) add-on goes over in the coming year.
