Super Mario 3DS a cross between Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy

Impish designer Shigeru Miyamoto has unleashed a few fresh details concerning Super Mario 3DS, claiming that it’ll be the bastard offspring of Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy

“It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64,” he said. “It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about.”

He also claimed that the 3DS’ 3D capabilities will make the game more intuitive: “For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy.”

Other details include the fact that the game is completely original, will be released this year and that the “tail” seen in the Mario 3DS logo is “what you think it is,” all but confirming suspicions that the beloved Raccoon Suit will be making its return!
