Sony expects 3D television to blow up in 2012

I’ve been seeing gaming on these 3D televisions for a couple of years now at the Consumer Electronics Show. It seems to get more of a spotlight each year. This year is supposed to be the biggest year for the in-home 3D tech, and I expect this week’s CES to be packed with demonstrations from all the major manufacturers. I’m already seeing double, and I’m not even there yet.

Sony thinks the big boom for the tech will come in a couple of years. You can relax, early adopters.

“We don’t expect to see an explosion of 3D in the home until the 2012 time frame,” says Mike Fasulo, chief marketing officer for Sony Electronics.

Until then, Sony is working to beef up their broadcasting equipment, movie studios, and more for the change. Of course, the consumer electronics they make are also getting the upgrade, PlayStation 3 included.

The rest of the BW article bitches about the “high price” and limited sales projections of tech that hasn’t even come out yet. Whatever. The LCD TVs we all game on were once over $10,000 a piece. 3D gaming is coming, like it or not.
