Sims 4 Lovestruck Attraction guide: Turn-Ons and Turns-Offs explained

Set the mood right.

The Sims 4’s classic romance dynamics have been revamped for the Lovestruck EP. With it, we have a new Attraction system that ultimately determines a Sim’s relationship. There’s also a Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs feature that functions similarly to the likes/dislikes. In this guide, we’ll explain the Sims 4 Lovestruck Attraction system in detail.

What is Attraction in Sims 4 Lovestruck?

Lovestruck’s Attraction mechanic determines how two Sims interact with one another in a romantic scope. You can customize your character’s Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs to decide what they are attracted to. It can be something as minor as a hair color preference or a particular personality trait.

If another Sim reflects these Turn-Ons (and vice versa), building your romantic relationship with them will be much easier. Attraction and Turn-Ons/Offs are divided into two categories: Physical Attraction and Personality Attraction. The Physical aspect is self-explanatory; it dives into a Sim’s fashion taste, hair, and specific color choices. Characters will be quick to notice these features, resulting in better conversations.

Personality digs into the nitty gritty stuff of a Sim’s life. These elements impact a character’s Attraction the most, where traits and hobbies come into play. There are various levels of Attraction in Sims 4 Lovestruck, showcasing the following ranks:

  • Very Unattracted
  • Unattracted
  • Neutral
  • Attracted
  • Very Attracted

A Sim’s Attraction level will be dictated by how many Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs are met by their potential partner. So, if they have a high level, the characters are more likely to accept romantic invitations. It won’t always turn out smoothly, as some Sims may not be attracted to your character. These individuals will typically inform you that they are uninterested and will prefer to be friends.

How to ask another Sim about Attraction Level in Lovestruck

Select the ‘Relationship’ section when conversing if you aren’t sure about another Sim’s Attraction toward you. Here, you can ask them various questions, from their Romantic Interests to their Romantic Boundaries.

It’s also possible to turn off Attraction by selecting your Sim. In return, they will only be attracted to those with whom they are in a romantic relationship.

Sims 4 Lovestruck Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs explained

You can customize a character’s Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs in Create-a-Sim. It will be marked with a magnet icon within the Select Preferences section.

There are six categories to choose from in Sims 4 Lovestruck’s Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs section:

  • Way of Life: A Sim’s career, skills, and wealth
  • Characteristics: What personality types a Sim is attracted to
  • Romance Styles: How Sims give and receive love
  • Hair Color: Choose variations of colors, including Dark Blue, Auburn, and Blonde
  • Outfit Color: Similar to the Hair Color section, but with clothing instead
  • Fashion Type: Select a fashion category like Costumes, Hipster, or Outdoor

The Romance Style is the only category that doesn’t affect Attraction levels. However, it does impact a Sim’s Romantic Satisfaction (how fulfilled they are in the romantic relationship). Each character can have up to 50 Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs. Plus, this feature can be changed at any time.

Once you activate a Turn-On, the Sim will be attracted to specific skills and traits. Since there are a wide variety of these elements in The Sims 4, we’ll break down the likes of each Turn-On:

Turn-OnsWhat They Like
AffectionSims who express their passion and vulnerability, including interactions like Whisper Sweet Nothings, Express Fondness, and Talk about Relationship Fears. These talking points increase Romantic Satisfaction.
FlirtingFlirty interactions, such as Ask Risque Question and Seduce with Costume, boost Romantic Satisfaction.
Gift GivingProviding gifts like chocolate and flowers to increase Romantic Satisfaction.
Physical IntimacyPhysical contact, including snuggling, giving a massage, or making out (may or may not impact Romantic Satisfaction).
Woohoo Pretty self-explanatory, but the Sim must determine whether or not it will increase or decrease Romantic Satisfaction.

As you may have noticed, many elements are tied to specific expansion packs. However, standard characteristics like Evil and Bookworm are still accessible from the base game. The rest of the Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs categories only focus on specific colors and outfits, which can be decided by your personal preferences.
