Some galaxies are worth fighting for. Just ask Mass Effect fans.
The folks behind #SaveMassEffect have followed through on their promise on parking mobile billboard outside of the headquarters for both EA and EA Sports in Redwood, California today, as seen below:
This comes as the petition under the same name has crossed over 300,000 signatures, and the Canadian government fields a petition of a different origin. This one is calling upon the government of Canada to take care of the people of BioWare who were let go when EA closed the studio a few weeks ago.
The petition in question, (Petition e-7898 from politician Don Davies) is hoping Canada will “provide BioWare with the capital necessary to secure independence of themselves and their intellectual property from Electronic Arts and resume business as an independent, Canadian company” and “protect Canadian businesses and cultural institutions from being dictated by American and foreign corporate interests.”
This separate petition now has over 3,000 signatures, which is enough to force those in the government to either present the petition during Parliamentary activities or file it with the Clerk of the House (thanks to PC Gamer for the Canadian explainer).
The latest #SaveMassEffect update comes after the announcement of a documentary based on BioWare, set to release next year. The film, titled Massive Effect: The BioWare Story, has been in the works for over two years and will reportedly give inside insights to the studio’s final days when word came down that EA was closing it up.
Tomorrow is Nov. 7, known across the fandom as N7 Day, which is a yearly celebration of the franchise. A number of new merchandise surrounding Mass Effect has been revealed in the days leading up to it, making it seem as though BioWare had big plans to potentially officially reveal Mass Effect Universe. Alas, it’s not to be, but fans of the series are not giving up just yet.
