Rumor: Monster Hunter headed to 3DS

If you’re the incorrigable Tony Ponce, you’re sarcastically “putting on your surprise face” right now. For the rest of us, this could be big news. The Monster Hunter series has long been exclusive to the PSP when it comes to the portable gaming world, which is part of why the PSP is so popular in Japan. If this rumor is to believed, then that exclusivity is about to end, which is great news for Nintendo, and terrible news for Sony.

All the hub-bub is coming from an off the cuff comment from Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto. In a recent interview, he sated “3DS is releasing, too, so (it seems like) the time to switch to a new platform is coming“. If this means a 3DS port of the wildly popular Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, of the less wildly-but-still-popular Monster Hunter Tri, or a whole new game, remains to be seen.

Regardless, I think it’s a safe guess that the 3DS will get some form of Monster Hunter at some point or another. Combining the power of Nintendo’s most anticipated console ever and Cacpom of Japan’s most popular series of the moment is a sure-fire “profit deal”.
