Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure announced for 3DS

Sega’s Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure is a title that we’ve seen a bit of from Japan recently, but now it has been announced exclusively for the 3DS.

Set in a 3D Paris, players go on a rhythmic adventure as Raphael, a thief that steals works of art only to return them days later. Wait, what? The game’s rhythm play has you tapping the screen or moving the gyro sensor to move Raphael through Paris.

Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure blends rhythm, puzzles and a compelling story set in one of the world’s most exciting cities in a way that has never been seen before,” says Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “This unique blend makes creative use of the Nintendo 3DS’ technology, offering an engaging, challenging and most importantly fun experience throughout.”

The trailer (shown above) looks fun, as do the new screenshots in our gallery. Dude’s all Smooth Criminal.

The release date is pretty broad right now: early 2012.
