E3 might be on, but here at Destructoid we cover other games, too. Like this one! It’s called Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. It’s a PSP rhythm game based on the singularly amazing “Vocaloid” line of virtual singing idols.
Anyway, the sequel’s out coming out on July 24th, for the PSP, six weeks from now. It will feature not just songs by Miku herself, but also tunes from other Vocaloid pals, all of whom will get their own costume sets, animations and duet performances. Wonderful. An improved sequel to a great game. Day one import, yes?
But wait! Owners of the first game (and a PlayStation 3) will have a reason not to buy into this new hotness, because Dreamy Theater, an add-on designed to render the original game in HD PS3 glory, is coming out in two weeks, on June 24th for about 3,000 yen, about $30. Pretty steep for DLC, but there’s added value in that Dreamy Theater is compatible with any and all unlocked costumes (including the awesome Valkyria Chronicles-themed one) and custom song edits, including the new songs introduced in Project Diva‘s first DLC pack.
That alone is one reason to stick with the old game and pass (temporarily, at least) on the new one, but now, oh now. Sega has announced the second Project Diva song pack, with eighteen new songs, including some by the Kagamine twins and Luka! And they’ll all be compatible with Dreamy Theater. All on July 1st for the ridiculous price of 3,000 more yens!
If I buy into this new stuff (and by god do I want to), I’ll have spent over a hundred dollars on one game, when the sequel is coming out three weeks later. Do you want me to buy the sequel or not, Sega?! If you do, quit offering me awesome DLC for the original, dammit. Hit the jump for videos of both in action. I swear, Sega.
