Elden Ring had its fair share of stylish weapons, including Bloodhound’s Fang in the base game and the Milady in Shadow of the Erdtree. The new Tarnished Pack DLC may have brought the new favorite in town, and it will bullrush past the competition.
The charm of the new Leontiel’s Greatsword lies in its unique Ash of War, Muleta, a high-risk, high-reward punish complete with a generous i-frame window. Think of it as a turbocharged Wing Stance from Milady, with some extra bullfighting flavor on top of it.
Holding the Ash of War causes the Tarnished to hold a small piece of red cloth in front of them, waiting for the perfect opportunity to counter. On attacking, the character dashes forward, usually landing behind a foe and securing a window for a slow but devastating hit.
A matching armor from Leontiel set completes the matador aesthetic, and yes, someone already beat boar-riding nightmare Commander Gaius with it. Seeing one of the game’s most frustrating bosses get obliterated in style perked me up more than my morning coffee.
Muleta is among the Elden Ring weapon arts that mix style and utility, including the previous champion, Milady’s Wing Stance. The new Ash of War seemingly works with Rellana’s Cameo, which got a stealthy but major buff with Patch 1.14 almost two years ago.
Leontiel’s Greatsword, as well as their armor set, is available from an NPC invasion in Caelid. The toreador reportedly appears in the Radahn Festival and will show up in Caelid after you’ve defeated Starscourge Radahn.
Since Leontiel’s Greatsword is a unique weapon, you can’t change its damage type or Ash of War, and you need Somber Smithing Stones to improve it to the maximum of +10.
Muleta, in Spanish, denotes a “small cloth attached to a short tapered stick and used by a matador in place of the large cape during the final stage of a bullfight,” per Merriam-Webster, which is fitting for the weapon’s theme.
In addition to Leontiel’s Greatsword and armor, the Tarnished Pack DLC also brings another invasion in Leyndell, Royal Capital (before that major story decision in the Mountaintops of the Giants), plus two new starting classes: the Idus Knight and the Heavy Knight.
The minor DLC brings some weapon types previously exclusive to Shadow of the Erdtree, including a new Light Greatsword and another pair of Backhand Blades—two weapon types that were also in contention for the king of style. They’re available early in the game, and the Idus Knight even starts with the Temu version of Milady. You also get three Torrent skins scattered throughout the Lands Between, which is kind of a bargain for the meager price tag of $5.
