Pore over Shantae’s original design sketches

And don’t forget to buy the game on eShop, fools!

The release of EarthBound on the Wii U unfortunately overshadowed the equally long-awaited arrival of WayForward’s Game Boy Color gem Shantae on the 3DS. But I’m not about to sit by and allow our spunky little gal pal to be ignored a second time! This is your reminder to hop onto the eShop and spend that green!

Shantae is a landmark title for WayForward, as it was the company’s first completely original property. Little do most people know, planning for the game actually began in the mid-90s when Erin Bozon, wife of WayForward creative director Matt Bozon, first designed the character. Matt ran with idea, and when development began, he was there in the office, drawing and coding almost everything entirely on his own. What a trooper!

Last week, Nintendo shared a few pages from Matt’s sketchbook, which also include Erin’s original illustrations. If you enjoy seeing where the magic began, give them a thorough once-over. And while you’re at it, do remember to download the game as well. C’mon, guys!
