Plug pulled on Renegade Kid’s game pitch contest

Well, damn.

Back in March, I shared news that Mutant Mudds dev Renegade Kid and contest organizer GAMEscribe LLC were holding the pitchWinPLAY competition, in which anyone could submit ideas for an original platformer to be turned into a full-fledged eShop title. But like many other exciting and ambitious ideas, it will never come to pass.

On July 12, GAMEscribe closed its doors, thus bringing pitchWinPLAY to an abrupt end. The reason? Not enough support. Apparently, aside from Dtoid and a few smaller sites, no major outlets reported on the contest. Most disheartening of all, only a mere 15 submissions had been received thus far. As you may recall, entries required submission fees, which were needed to keep the gears turning. Maybe it was asking too much of folks to “pay to play,” but Kickstarter has demonstrated that gamers are willing to throw money at a cause they believe in.

It’s such a shame that things didn’t turn out quite as planned. I’m especially sad for Renegade Kid, a company that doesn’t seem to catch too many breaks. Oh well…

(Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Colin)
