Payday 2 has sold 1.58 million copies

80 percent of which happened through digital distribution

Payday 2 is doing very well for itself. At retail, it broke into the NPD’s top 10 for August 2013 but, here’s the thing about that: the game’s 1.58 million copies sold, according to Starbreeze, were 80 percent digital. Interesting. I always love it when we actually get numbers for digital sales.

Part of that probably had to do with the fact that pre-orders were pushed hard for Payday — to the point where it was profitable for Overkill Software before launch. From what I’m hearing, people are desperate for more content. The developer has said that five DLC packs — some free, some paid — will release this year for the game.
