Abe Lincoln wants you to kill aliens in this SRPG shooter

Nintendo tipped its hand this evening at E3, revealing a new intellectual property called Code Name: STEAM for 3DS.

A turn-based strategy RPG hybrid with third-person shooter elements, the story follows an elite task force created by Abraham Lincoln to fend off an alien invasion. Yes, really. The upcoming title is said to take inspiration from the work of author H. P. Lovecraft and comic artists such as Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm.

Code Name: STEAM is set in London and features a steampunk aesthetic, complete with airships and all. The perspective brings the vantage point down to the actual units, which Nintendo hopes will help take away the apprehension people have about strategy titles and bring the genre to a wider audience.

It is being developed by Intelligent Systems, the studio behind Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, with assistance from other first-party teams. The producer is none other than Hitoshi Yamagami, overseer of RPG projects at Nintendo and manager of the company’s SPD Group 2.

Code Name: STEAM will release for Nintendo 3DS in 2015.
