Nintendo has plans for amiibo cards, smaller figures

The amiibo figures hitting shelves later this month won’t necessarily resemble every near-field communication toy Nintendo has in the works.

Speaking at the Q&A session following Nintendo’s semiannual investor meeting, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned the company is working on card-based amiibo as well as smaller, cheaper figures than the ones launching alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Miyamoto didn’t divulge any specifics, but believes NFC devices have a great deal of potential — something he hopes Nintendo will continue to showcase in the coming year.
