Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fantastic superhero movie. I think it’s one of the best in a long time, if not ever.
Moviegoers agree, with the film racking up huge box office cash and heading towards over $2 billion worldwide. And a lot of those moviegoers are gamers, apparently, as the cascade effect of the film’s popularity is translating to Insomniac Games’ PS5 Spidey titles.

According to Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 “has sold another 316,000 copies since Brand New Day hit cinemas on July 30, generating $11 million-plus across PS5 and Steam in under two weeks. According to Alinea data, about 20 percent of the “film-window” copies sold on PS5 were physical, with another 274,000 players trying the game for the first time ever via PlayStation Plus.
Spider-Man is an omnipresent character in all sorts of media, whether it be movies, games, TV shows, comic books, or anything in between. It’s arguably the most popular fictional character there is, but this is still cool to see a years-old game get a boost like this.
“Right now, these lifts happen mostly by accident,” Elliot continued. “Brand New Day landed almost three years after the game. Imagine if a platform holder or publisher managed to align a major game and a major film. If only dev timelines and delays weren’t so hellish…”
While the Insomniac game release didn’t quite line up, the cross-promotion for Brand New Day spread to just about all forms of Marvel Games, including skins in Marvel Rivals, a season of cards in Marvel Snap, and several other games like Marvel Contest of Champions as an example.

Insomniac’s next title, Marvel’s Wolverine, exists in the same universe as its Spider-Man games, so it’s possible the wallcrawler could make a cameo when that game launches on PS5 next month.
But you can bet that once Wolverine is done and released, development on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 will begin in full, if it hasn’t already.
