Hello, darkness, my old friend…

Publisher Nacon has lifted the lid on a brand new adventure game, Hell is Us, currently in development at Canadian studio Rogue Factor. The dark-looking title is expected to launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X at some point next year.

Set against the backdrop of some unknown civil war, Hell is Us sees a lone protagonist explore this strange-but-familiar world, rendered asunder by a strange supernatural presence known as “The Calamity.” While Rogue Factor is currently staying slim on plot details, Hell is Us is described as offering an epic “semi open-world” adventure, which will encourage the player to “follow their nose” and trust their directional instincts, rather than abide by any form of directional hand-holding.

You can check out the game’s first teaser trailer below.

“We are delighted to be able to finally announce this game,” writes Nacon CEO Alain Falc. “As a publisher, we always want to offer games with original ideas that will appeal to as many people as possible. The first game from Rogue Factor since we acquired it is also one of our most ambitious projects, and we can’t wait to reveal more about it in the coming months.”

Hell is Us has a pedigree of talented developers on board. These include creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, previously responsible for the acclaimed cyberpunk adventure Deus Ex: Human Revolution and its sequel Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. More recently, Jacques-Belletete worked on the concept art of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is no doubt looking to bring their distinctive eye for dangerous, attractive, and intricate worlds and characters to Rogue Factor’s project.

Hell is Us is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. It is scheduled to launch in 2023.
