Mojang Studios reveals new Minecraft weapon with knockback effects

A smashin' good time.

Ever since Mojang Studios unleashed a teaser of a mysterious item, the community theorized that another tool would be joining the ranks. And now, the lingering question has been answered with the reveal of the new Minecraft weapon, Mace.

The Mace, also regarded as “a hammer,” excels in falling attacks, where players must test their luck on elevated terrain. All you have to do is jump off a hill or cliff and then land a strike on a mob while falling for extra damage. While it does sound pretty dangerous, fall damage is, fortunately, negated when the attack lands. I, for one, will probably end up dying multiple times, but that’s the price you have to pay for Minecraft experiments.

In addition to the negated fall damage, a knockback effect applies when the strike lands, sending those grotesque zombies flying. The technique will likely require several attempts to get it just right. It’s probably best to start from a one-block slope to avoid plummeting to your death. Nevertheless, longer falls produce higher damage rates, so you can try to practice this method in Creative mode or, at the least, keep the inventory on to save your items.

It’s pleasing to see a new weapon join the Minecraft collection, considering we’ve only had to rely on the standard swords, axes, bows, and tridents. However, the Mace isn’t entirely new since it was featured as a tool in Minecraft Dungeons. The two versions are basically the same, yet Minecraft’s rendition seems relatively better with its damage rates.

More Version 1.21 features are included with the Mace reveal, such as the latest armor trims, Breeze-themed banners, and Pottery Sherds. These items are purely cosmetic and help create the perfect house or gear for any type of crafter.

All of the new features can be found in Minecraft SnapShot, Preview, or Beta. To try out the new Mace, it must be crafted with the Breeze Rod and Heavy Core. The procedure involves the challenging Trial Chambers, another unique element of Version 1.21.
