There’s been a crap load of Nintendo news lately, huh? Between talk of Nintendo’s next home console and Miyamoto talking up a storm, it feels like a there was a mini-E3 for Nintendo this week, and it just keeps going.
The latest word from Miyamoto is focused on the pending 3DS eShop a success. He says that “With downloadable games via eShop, we will start to create meaningful and high-value games for 3DS specifically”. Even more specifically that, Miyamoto says that there’s another another Zelda title that he’d like to port to the 3DS. “Do you remember Xevious?” he says. “It’s two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see Link To The Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me.”
I agree. I got to play Xevious on the 3DS last year at E3, and it was really fun to look at. I know a lot of people are down on 3D for some reason, but for me, it’s just like HD; another non-essential way to spice up a game’s visuals. The big difference is, with 3D, it doesn’t cost developers alot of extra money to add that extra visual punch. Everything from sprite-based retro titles Punch-Out and Mega Man 2 to low polygon-count titles like Cave Story and Star Fox 64 are more eye-catching and impressive in 3D, with little additional effort or funds required by the development team.
