MGS creator Hideo Kojima may be working on a family sim

Hideo Kojima is like the adorable, genius Japanese game designer dad I’ve always wished I had. With Kojima’s upcoming, untitled project, I may come one step closer to learning how to love and live like a Kojima.

“Now I’m starting a new series, focusing on a new set of issues. It’ll probably be different to what Metal Gear Solid addressed,” Kojima told CVG, during E3 last week. “Of course, I’m turning 50 now, so if I’m going to approach new topics, it might be something more on a human level, like the concept of love, or rearing a family, things of that nature.”

Oh, Kojima! Does this mean we’ll soon be playing Cooking Mama or a high school dating sim produced by Kojima? My mind gets dizzy thinking of all the operatic monologues and smoking diaper-monkeys you can fit into a Kojima relationship sim. To tell you the truth, I imagine the end-product will be a lot closer to what David Cage is doing at Quantic Dream. Just more awesome and silly because it’s Kojima.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding his mysterious Project Ogre, which this relationship game may or may not be a part of. Kojima goes on to say the game will tackle a “taboo” subject but leaves it at that. What are we talking about, here, Kojima? Sodomy?

Whatever type of game this will be, it will be something we haven’t seen before from Kojima, who seems mighty earnest about its creation. It’s always nice to see such an old, established game designer still have that creative spark and passion for a new project.

“My perspective has changed from creating rules, to creating situations, and putting people in those situations,” Kojima said. “There’s a lot of risk in that, but that’s what I’m trying to accomplish now, to rise to the challenge and create something new based on a new type of game design”
