After being teased for over a year, Parker Robbins, aka The Hood, is coming to Marvel Rivals in Season 9.5. A gun-toting gangster with a shadowy magical cloak, The Hood is a Vanguard with a ferocious moveset that fits him like the sinister mantle he wears.
Every move in The Hood’s kit looks brutal, but his ability, which transforms him into a towering demon of shadow and steel with a shotgun for a head, stole the show for most fans. It also gave fans of the hit manga Chainsaw Man a collective heart attack.
With his buckshot-blasting helm, machine gun hands, and billowing tentacles, The Hood’s “full Demon State” is a dead ringer for the true form of the Gun Devil, one of the most iconic devils in all of Chainsaw Man. The two look nearly identical, right down to their shared demonic origin.
A being born from humanity’s collective fear of firearms, The Gun Devil is one of the deadliest and most powerful devils in Chainsaw Man‘s world. Summoned by acts of firearm-related violence, the Gun Devil is a key player in the early stages of the manga’s story, eventually facing off against protagonist Denji in a battle that fans cannot wait to see animated.
With its menacing design and massive narrative presence, the Gun Devil immediately became a fan-favorite among Chainsaw Man fans, and it didn’t take long for them to notice that the folks over at NetEase may have been thinking about him when drawing out the visuals for The Hood’s ultimate.
Across YouTube and X, the comment sections for The Hood’s announcement trailer are full of people comparing his demonic final form to the Gun Devil. Many were very pleased by the similarities, ecstatic that they’ll be able to essentially play as the Gun Devil once The Hood officially joins the roster.
While there is a slim chance that the similarities between the two forms are just a coincidence, it would be a pretty artful move on NetEase’s part. The Hood is, at his core, the product of a random act of violence that transformed him from a man into a monster. So basing the final form of this average-Joe-turned-magical-menace on a being who embodies the fear of being shot out of the blue would be a smart move.
