Mario Party Star Rush will not continue the bad ‘car’ mechanic from recent iterations

Nintendo announced Mario Party Star Rush yesterday buried in a press release, but today they’re giving it a bit more fanfare.

In addition to showing actual gameplay, they detailed a few of the game’s systems. It seems like it’ll sport competitive boss battles (where players try to deal more damage and earn more points than one another), and separate movement — so characters aren’t all relegated to the same “car” while rolling dice and traversing across the board (which they will do simultaneously). Players can also pick up Mario series “allies” in the “Toad” gametype, which provide special item-like abilities.

Even knowing this relatively good information, I’m still not hopeful for this one. You can get a look at it for yourself in the trailer below.
