Killzone 3 was all but confirmed before the weekend, but nothing’s set in stone without a press release in your hand. Sony has provided such a press release this morning, officially announcing Killzone 3 for the PlayStation 3. Hooray!
As we already heard, Killzone 3 will be getting 3D gimmickry, jet packs, and a new arctic setting. The game picks up where Killzone 2 left off, with Rico and Sev attempting to take on the Helghast almost single-handhedly following Rico’s murder of Helghan emperor Scolar Visari. It would seem that Visari’s death has thrown Helghan into a world of political backbiting, infighting and general chaos, with our human heroes caught right in the middle. Sounds like Killzone 3 runs the risk of having an interesting story this time, which would be fantastic.
More vehicles, a “vicious” close combat system and levels promised to be “ten times the size” of the last game, Killzone 3 looks set to be better than the last one, which I happened to love. Are you excited? I know I am. Hit the jump for the full presser and check out the first screens, too!

Meanwhile his parting gift, a nuclear bomb detonated in Phyruss, the Helghan Capital, has decimated the ISA invasion force. With no re-enforcements and supplies quickly running out, you must now fight against ruthless Helghast war machine alone.

With levels ten times bigger than in Killzone 2, this is Helghan like you’ve never seen it before. You’ll face brutal combat in a host of environments that threaten to bury you on the deadly planet.
