The Blacktail – Jack of all Trades

On his journey to rescue the president’s daughter, Leon Kennedy goes through a lot of guns in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Though players have many choices when it comes to their loadout, it is almost unthinkable to have Leon head out without a trusty pistol. There’s plenty to choose from, including the Blacktail handgun. Some gamers may be wondering if the Blacktail is good in Resident Evil 4 Remake. For the most part, yes, though it is also worth considering alternatives.

Blacktail Stats in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Blacktail’s description lets players know what they’re in for. Although it has high performance and is certainly not a throwaway weapon, it doesn’t have any particularly standout stats. When fully upgraded, it has a relatively low ammo capacity of 13, but this is offset by its blindingly fast fire rate of 2.2 and reload speed of 1.6. Its power tops at 2.4 normally, which is already impressive, but with the Exclusive upgrade which is gained by fully upgrading the weapon, the power is increased by 1.5x. This turns it into a nearly unstoppable cannon, though the upgrade costs a whopping 100, 000 Pesetas. The fact that it only takes up four blocks in the AttachĆ© Case is also a valuable bonus.

Where to Get the Blacktail in Resident Evil 4 Remake

Players interested in adding the Blacktail to Leon’s arsenal will have to wait until Chapter 7. It can be purchased from the Merchant for 24, 000 Pesetas, which is a steep price but players won’t be spending much on attachments, as there aren’t any. It can be sold back for 12, 000 Pesetas. The fact that the pistol is locked until about halfway in is a pity, as players would have already unlocked other handguns such as the Red9, which is available from Chapter 6, and The Punisher, which can be purchased from Chapter 2.

The Final Verdict

The Blacktail is certainly not a terrible gun, and it is worth its price tag, especially when it is fully upgraded. For players who value fast reload speed and rapid rate of fire, it is a great choice. However, if players are looking for power, it may be better to go with the Red9 handgun which edges out the Blacktail with a maxed-out power stat of 2.7 that receives a 1.5 multiplier with its Exclusive upgrade. For those who are more concerned with ammo capacity, the Sentinel Nine may be a more attractive option, as it has an ammo capacity of 31 when it is fully upgraded.
