I love Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse and now, on Nintendo Switch, you can too

WayForward’s delightful platform adventure Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is now available to purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop, The Switch edition includes an exclusive HD Rumble feature and Super Shantae Nab mini-game.

I’ve gone on record numerous times stating that Pirate’s Curse, the third in the Shantae quadrilogy, is not only the series’ best by a country mile, but is one of my favourite vidya gamez of all-time, and I’ve been playing since eighty-frikkin-five. It features a cast of delightful characters, spouting great, genuinely funny dialogue, and populating a varied world of wondrous design. All backed by an awesome score that perfectly captures the atmosphere of each stage.

Although strictly a platform adventure, the game also features smart puzzles and Metroidvania elements, while throwing the player the occasional curveball just as things start to get familiar. The narrative is great too, as Shantae, having lost her genie powers, must utilise newly-found pirate skills, team up with – gasp – arch-nemesis Risky Boots, and take on the undead Pirate Master.

With a witty script, gorgeous aesthetics and fast-paced, satisfying gameplay, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is easily one of the best platform adventures ever made. It is available now on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii-U, Amazon Fire TV and Nintendo 3DS.
