Jack Skellington’s iconic ghost dog Zero has finally made his way to the village in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This adorable pup is available for you to unlock as a permanent Companion, but the process for getting him is a bit tricky.
Zero is quite a special dog, and we don’t get iconic Companions like him very often, so adding him to your collection is a must. If you’re struggling to make it happen, here’s how to unlock Zero in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to get Zero in Disney Dreamlight Valley
You can unlock Zero by progressing through Oogie Boogie’s unlock quest series in DDV. As of the time of writing, it’s currently unknown when exactly in this process he becomes available, but he is confirmed to be part of it.
You’ll naturally come across Zero while working on unlocking Oogie Boogie, so as long as you’re focused on progressing through this quest series, you don’t need to worry about doing anything extra to get Zero. Meeting and befriending him is part of this journey, so it’s better to primarily focus on getting Oogie Boogie, as this is where all the work actually is.

All requirements to unlock Zero in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Here are all of the key steps and tasks you need to have done to unlock Zero as a Companion. Not all parts of the process have been revealed yet, so we’ll update this section weekly as they become available.
- Complete some required prerequisites to unlock Oogie Boogie’s questline. There are a few key tasks you need to have done to begin Oogie Boogie’s mission series. All of these requirements take place fairly early on in DDV, so there’s a good chance you already have them done.
- Unlock Scrooge McDuck’s shop.
- Unlock Chez Remy.
- Unlock Goofy.
- Unlock the Peaceful Meadow biome.
- Visit your mailbox to start Oogie Boogie’s quests. Once the requirements have been met, visit your mailbox to start Oogie Boogie’s quests. For 2026, you can visit your mailbox anytime between Sept. 23 and Nov. 4 to kickstart this mission series. If you don’t do so within this timeframe, you’ll have to wait until 2027 to start the quests and unlock Zero and Oogie Boogie. From 2027 onwards, this set of missions will be available from Oct. 1 to 31 annually.
- Complete the A Halloween Invasion quest. This is the very first mission in Oogie Boogie’s series, and also the first quest you need to check off to work toward unlocking Zero. In this mission, you meet Oogie Boogie, spin his Lucky Wheel, repair it, unleash some chaos around the valley, and clean it up. Zero is not part of this quest, but you do need to have it done to get one step closer to unlocking him.
- Complete The Oogie Boogie Contract quest. This mission arrives on Sept. 30, so we’ll add details here about the process and how it ties into the process for unlocking Zero once it’s live.
If you need some tasks to keep you busy while you wait for Zero to arrive in the valley, there’s lots to get done. The seasonal Star Path is massive, so a good way to spend your time is tackling all Haunting Elegance Star Path duties.
