How to unlock Duremert and his portraits in Final Fantasy XIV

A gallery of familiar faces

Owning a house or apartment in Final Fantasy XIV is one of the center points of the MMO. The eternal struggle of decorating your virtual home is almost a rite of passage at this point, and the space becomes a reflection of you, and the things you love within Eorzea.

Wall art can make or break a space, and there’s plenty to choose from. If you want to immortalize the friends you’ve made along the way, there are a lot of options available, but probably none are more worthy of being hung on the walls than the Scions or The Twelve. Portraits of these characters are available if your interior design choices require them, but only from one very specific source.

How to unlock Duremert in Final Fantasy XIV

Duremert is an Elezen portrait artist and NPC who can be found in The Pillars in Foundation (X:9.7, Y:10.7) close to the Jeweled Crozier aethernet shard. Before you can hand over your hard earned Gil to him and be rewarded with his paintings, you’ll need to work towards unlocking him.

Sadly, you won’t be able to do that until you’ve reached at least level 90, because you need to complete the level 90 MSQ quest “Newfound Adventure” which was added during patch 6.1 as part of the Endwalker story. Once you’ve reached this point and completed the quest, you’ll then be able to move on to actually unlocking Duremert.

Duremert unlocks as part of the Tataru’s Grand Endeavor series of side quests. The first quest “Small Business, Big Dreams” will become available to complete after you’ve completed the above mentioned MSQ quest, and can be picked up by talking to Mehdjina in Old Sharlayan (X:11.8, Y:9.8).

The second quest in the Tataru’s Grand Endeavor series is the one that actually unlocked Duremert. “Soaring Profits” is also unlocked by talking to Mehdjina, and you’ll need to head to Foundation to complete it. It’s relatively simple, mainly involving talking to a few NPCs and locating some stolen cargo. Once you’ve done that, you’ll gain access to Duremert and his wares.

Duremert has two sets of portraits to unlock, each of which is earned by completing a certain quest. Each painting costs 20,000 Gil and while that may seem a tad on the pricey side, these are exclusive and untradeable, so there’s no other way to get your hands on them.

The Scions

The good news is that by completing “Soaring Profits”, you will have already unlocked the first set, which consists of paintings of the Scions. Each has a somewhat cryptic name, but here’s the rundown of all available Scion portraits:

The Twelve

Portraits of The Twelve will become available to purchase from Duremert after completing the level 90 side quest “Embraced by Gods”, which is the final quest in the Myths of the Realm storyline. This does mean that you’ll need to complete all of the Endwalker Alliance Raids before you can purchase portraits of the ‘deities’ involved in the story.

Rather than being named as the ‘deities’ themselves, the portraits are named after their monikers. Here’s all of the portraits, along with which is which:
