Pickpocketing is the key
One of the most prominent parts of Octopath Traveler 2’s customization is the various jobs characters can switch to. It is even possible to equip a secondary job, such as Scholar, for someone other than Osvald. To do this, though, you’ll likely need to find a few Almighty Soulstones.
How to get an Almighty Soulstone in Octopath Traveler 2
The Almighty Soulstone is a necessary item for any player who wants to unlock an addition job license for the Scholar job. This allows an extra party member to equip the Scholar job and use all of the elemental magical skills that come along with it.
You need a total of five Almighty Soulstones to turn into the Scholar Guild to acquire an additional job license. The unfortunate part of this is that the game doesn’t make it abundantly clear where you can get the Almighty Soulstones in the first place.
Worse still, it isn’t as easy as finding a single enemy type and defeating them to obtain the special stone item. You’ll have to have a Thief in your party, be it the original Thief Throné, or someone with it as a secondary job.
Almighty Soulstone location, explained
Once you have a Thief in your party, all you need to do is head to the Scholar Guild. This is found in the level 22 Western Winterbloom Snows in the Winterlands on the eastern continent in Solistia. To best reach here, I recommend teleporting to Winterbloom and heading out of the west exit. Alternatively, if you haven’t reached Winterbloom yet, head east from Cape Cold.
The Scholar Guild is on the northern side of this area, as noted by the symbol on the minimap. When you get here, make sure to switch the time to nighttime. While in nighttime, run around and encounter enemies until you find one of the elemental enemies, such as the Ice Elemental.
To up your chances of finding them, I suggest equipping the Ochette More Rare Monsters job skill that offers the chance to encounter rarer monsters. Once you find an elemental, the way to get the Almighty Soulstone is to steal it from them using the steal command from the Thief job.
There is only a small chance of obtaining it each time you try to steal from the elemental enemies, so the best thing to do is break the opponent first using their weaknesses. This can up the chances of a successful steal. Be sure to grab five Almighty Soulstones this way to unlock the additional Scholar job license from the nearby Scholar Guild.
