The Nintendo Switch 2 is here, and your friends are waiting for you to hop online and play games like Mario Kart World on the new handheld console.
Like Switch 1, Switch 2 uses a Friend Code system of numbers to identify different players, unlike other platforms like PlayStation or Xbox where you can input your own unique name. You have to find your friend code if you want anyone to add you to their friends list, so it’s important to know how to find it.
The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are very similar consoles when it comes to the UI, but if you’re a new player or need a refresher on how to add friends or find your friend code, we’ve got you covered.

From your “[your name]’s Page,” you can scroll down to Add Friend. From this page, you can see incoming friend requests, and select whether you want to add your friend via their Friend Code, add a friend from the list of players you’ve played games with recently on Nintendo Online, Search for Local Users to add a friend who’s nearby with their own Switch 2, and check your Outgoing Friend Requests.
The image above is the screen you will see when you add a friend via their Friend Code. Enter in the 12 digits given to you by your friend to send them a request. To accept another’s request, select Incoming Friend Requests from the Add Friend screen.
