It hasn’t even been a month since its launch, but the wonderfully hectic CONTROL Resonant has already sold its first million copies, Remedy Entertainment announced today. The game has surpassed Alan Wake 2 as the developer’s fastest-selling game.

CONTROL Resonant received plenty of praise from critics and fans alike, including a nine out of 10 in our review. After putting nearly 90 hours into the game, it’s not all that surprising to see it thrive, but it only took Resonant three weeks to clear the milestone. It comfortably dethroned Alan Wake 2, which needed around two months to reach those figures.

Remedy carved a spot in fans’ hearts after releasing a series of incredible games, such as Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and CONTROL. Despite the game leaking a day early, internet pirates pledged their support for the studio, asking people to buy the game rather than download it. It’s hard to think of another studio that could instill that sort of fondness.

It’s not entirely fair to compare sales figures between CONTROL Resonant and Alan Wake 2, however. The previous champion is exclusive to the Epic Games Store, which was already quite reviled by gamers.

Not putting the game on Steam meant a smaller market, and that’s before Epic’s latest controversy. In the meantime, Epic proudly announced a vibe-coded version of its store, bragging about it being all of five seconds faster than Steam—only to get outpaced by its rival before the new store was even live.

CONTROL Resonant is a masterful follow-up to the critically acclaimed CONTROL, picking up from where its older sibling left off. You play as Dylan Faden, the brother of Jesse Faden. Jesse was the protagonist in the original game, introducing fans to the paranatural mysteries of the Federal Bureau of Control.

Resonant plays wildly differently than its predecessor, bringing a high-octane hack-and-slash to the streets of New York. If you played the first title, you’ve already seen Jesse’s share of the story; now it’s time to experience Dylan’s journey. And while Remedy maintains you don’t necessarily need to play the first game, it does make the story a lot better, in our opinion.

CONTROL Resonant is bound to sell even more as the years go by. Remedy promised a slew of improvements, including the upcoming Photo Mode, and the studio already addressed pain points such as early-game difficulty and limited number of runs. The game will likely have DLC as well, which will surely spark new interest in the game.
