There are loads of unique biomes you can find and explore in Minecraft, with plenty of fresh ones being introduced throughout updates. One of the newer additions is the Ice Caves biome, which means you may need some help finding it.
With lots of regions to explore and a consistently expanding number of biomes you may encounter, tracking down a specific one on your own can be tricky. Venturing to them all is key for discovering new items and checking off important tasks, though, so here’s how to find the Ice Caves biome in Minecraft.

Where to find Ice Caves biome in Minecraft
The Ice Caves biome is a cave region that spawns at lower temperatures. This means you’ll most commonly find them situated underneath snowy biomes such as Ice Spikes, Snowy Plains, Snowy Taigas, and Frozen Oceans. Sometimes, though, they can also appear under biomes that are less cold, like the Dappled Forest.
Ice Caves are also overall more common near oceans, so look out for cold regions situated near the ocean to have the best shot at finding them. High humidity levels reduce the likelihood of Ice Caves spawning, so don’t search for them around biomes that have this feature, like Jungles.
Since Ice Caves weren’t always a feature in Minecraft, finding them on older worlds is tough. If you want to locate one in a world you had prior to the Winter 2026 drop, you’ll need to venture to an area you haven’t been to before, as they cannot spawn in chunks you’ve already loaded in. Because of this, it’s best to create a fresh world if you’re hoping to find this region.

How to use the locate Ice Caves biome command in Minecraft
If you want to guarantee you successfully locate an Ice Caves biome, there is a special cheat you can use to do so. The following command can be entered in the chat box with cheats enabled to give you the coordinates of the closest Ice Caves biome.
- /locate biome minecraft:ice_caves
Once you’ve entered this cheat, you can click on the coordinates in the chat box to teleport to the biome. Or, if you wish to travel on foot, you can also navigate to it yourself using these numbers.
Ice Caves biome features in Minecraft
Ice Caves are a cold biome where lots of different icy blocks can generate. Blocks you can find while exploring this area include calcite, packed ice, icicles, ice crystals, snow, brittle ice, and ice. Ice crystals and icicles spawn exclusively in this area.
Frostbites, an icy variant of the Zombie, can spawn here. You may also encounter other common cave hostile mobs, like Spiders, Skeletons, Slimes, Endermen, and Creepers, while exploring this area.
